Newton Housing Development Corp Ribbon Cutting

  • A ribbon cutting ceremony was held April 13th to officially open Fairmeadows North Plat 8. Over 30 people attended on a windy, drizzling, chilly day to celebrate our newest sub division.
  • Two houses are currently under construction and three more have started the building permitting process. Plus three other lots are under contract and will be built on later in the year.  he goal is to
    have half of the 23 lots sold and under construction this year.  Citywide there are new foundations in Fountain Hills, Bradford Estates, Cardinal Ridge and Fairmeadows North. 
  • Habitat for Humanity is organizing a new chapter for Jasper County. Election of officers and goal setting for 2018 are underway.
  • City Staff and Economic Development Partners have been working on an expanded Dangerous and Dilapidated Program that will save existing viable structures, reduce City Dollars spent on D & D projects, and help local contractors transform homes and refresh neighborhoods.
  • “Several developers and builders have been in Newton recently asking questions about building housing. We have given tours of Newton, provided wanted info and in some cases set up meetings with land owners to help the Developers and their lender decide if Newton is right for them, Bruce Showalter, Executive Director of Newton Housing Development Corporation (NHDC) said. “I would say it’s an exciting time for Housing Development in Newton and you will see continuing growth in neighborhoods and population in Newton the rest of 2018 and beyond.”
  • On April 11th Mayor Mike Hansen signed a proclamation declaring April, “Fair Housing Month,” in Newton.
