The Young Professionals of Jasper County are hosting this fun holiday lights display competition that will see businesses/organizations and residents compete for the title of cheeriest display!
There will be 2 competition brackets: Business/Organization & Residential. Each bracket will compete for fabulous prizes; including cash, charity donations, and a Chamber of Commerce year membership!
The competition will begin after the annual courthouse lighting and parade, and continue through December 6th . They ask that light and displays be on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and be visible from the street. The public can visit the YPJC's Facebook page to access the Jasper County Light Fight map and vote for their favorite light display!

Join us downtown for our annual Courthouse Lighting and Lighted Parade! The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with Horse and Carriage rides on the west side of the courthouse. There will be a DJ playing your holiday favorites, new and old! The courthouse will be lit at 6 p.m., and the parade will begin immediately following. Join us for the countdown! There will also be live window models at Olive'et Boutique, located on W. 2nd St. S., just off the square.
Don't forget your cameras and smart phones as we will have a photo booth for your family and friends to enjoy and make memories of our 2017 Courthouse Lighting!
After the parade the family can enjoy visiting Santa inside the courthouse! The 4-H groups will also be displaying their "Festival of Trees" inside the Courthouse for everybody to enjoy before and after the parade.

The Newton Public Library will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22nd, and remain closed on November 23rd and 24th, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Normal hours will resume on Saturday, November 25th.

A gentle and fun introduction to literacy through songs, stories, and finger plays. For newborns to 18 months with a parent or caregiver (siblings are welcome). Stay for play and social time after the program!

The library will have a certified therapy dog in the Children's Department to listen to children read! This friendly golden retriever is certified with Therapy Dogs International, and loves children. Volunteer Cynthia Healy and her dog will be at the puzzle table area in the library to give your child a chance to practice reading aloud.
