Parking Enforcement
The Parking Enforcement Attendant (PEA) enforces local parking regulations throughout the City of Newton. During 2010, the PEA issued 1,712 parking citations. The PEA issues parking citations in the downtown business district, in all kinds of weather, with walking tours primarily to the downtown area. Parking rounds include metered lots, three-hour parking zones and illegal parking areas.

While not on the street, the PEA helps with various walk-in traffic, answers numerous phone calls and questions from citizens, enters vehicle owner information, sends out late notices for unpaid parking violations, receipt payment of parking tickets, dog, and cat and bike licenses. The PEA also assists the Support Services division by locating incident reports and making photocopies for attorneys. The PEA also helps with preparation duties required for various department programs such as the Citizen Police Academy, Police Youth Academy, and the Traffic Safety Mug Campaign, just to mention a few. The PEA also performs other public duties such as substituting for School Crossing Guards at various Newton schools, as well as delivering weekly information to Newton City Council members.

Paying a Parking Ticket
There are three different ways you can pay your parking ticket.
  1. You can bring in your ticket to the Newton Police Department.
  2. You can mail in the ticket.  We suggest that if you are going to mail in your payment to pay by a check rather than sending in cash.
  3. You can deposit it in one of the red boxes located in one of the metered parking lots or on the east or west side of the courthouse.  The red boxes are dumped each night and is received in the front office the next day. We suggest that if you are going to drop your payment off in of one the red boxes that you pay by check and not cash.

The police department is not able to accept debit/credit at this time so you will need to pay your parking ticket by cash or check.

If you have lost your ticket, you can come into the front office of the police department and we can look it up by either the license plate of the vehicle or if you have received a late letter from us in the past we would be able to look up the ticket by your last name.
