Healthcare Facility, Daycare, and School Inspections

In 2019, the inspection of healthcare facilities, schools, and daycares was transferred to the Iowa State Fire Marshal Fire Prevention Bureau.  

Iowa State Fire Marshal Fire Inspectors are responsible for the inspection of health care facilities, schools, prisons, daycares, flammable liquid installations, and public buildings to ensure compliance with codes. State Fire Inspectors also inspect and investigate building complaints.

State Fire Inspectors are trained law enforcement officers and are certified as Federal Healthcare Surveyors through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Newton is located in the Central Territory.  The Central Territory includes the following counties: Boone, Hamilton, Jasper, Polk, and Story.
