The City Clerk plays a crucial role in the City's operations, appointed by the City Council. They are responsible for maintaining official records and acting as a representative for the City when receiving legal documents.
Responsibilities
The City Clerk has the following specific responsibilities:
- Custodianship of all official documents and records
- Maintenance of City records
- Preparation of council agendas
- Publication and posting of meeting notices, agendas, and ordinances
- Reporting council proceedings and recording votes
Permits Issued by the City Clerk's Office
The City Clerk's office also handles the issuance of various permits, which may include:
- Liquor licenses
- Door-to-door solicitor's permits
- Block party requests

City Clerk
Katrina Davis serves as the City Clerk and has been appointed by the City Council. In her role, she is responsible for preserving and managing all official documents and records. Katrina also takes charge of preparing council agendas, ensuring meeting notices and ordinances are published and posted, and reporting council proceedings and voting results. Additionally, she serves as the Administrative Services Manager.
Deputy City Clerks
Alongside their regular responsibilities, four dedicated employees of the City of Newton also serve as Deputy City Clerks. They provide valuable support to the City Clerk's office. The Deputy City Clerks are:
