Fire Marshal's Division
The Newton Fire Department’s Fire Marshal directs and oversees all code enforcement and fire prevention programs. He directs and completes all fire investigations to include fire cause and arson prosecution efforts, and is responsible for conducting public education programs.
Both rental and commercial inspections are done not only to look for hazards, but also used to educate about fire safety.
Commercial Property Inspections
There are over an estimated 350 commercial properties (businesses)
in Newton. The Newton Fire Department conducts approximately 120 commercial inspections each year.
Rental Property Inspections
For the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 the Newton Fire Department conducted 640 rental property inspections. During the same fiscal year, the rental program brought in over $68,000 in permit fees.
The Fire Marshal's office is responsible for the investigation of fires to determine the cause and origin.
In 2016/2017 the Fire Marshal has investigated 12 fires. There were no injuries or fatalities to civilians reported in FY16/17.
Fire Prevention Programs
The Fire Marshal conducts several fire prevention classes throughout the year. These include fire extinguisher classes, classes on fire safety and the SAFE House Program.
Pubic Education & Fire Prevention Programs
In October of every year the Newton Fire Department conducts the SAFE House Program to all 3rd grade classes in Newton.
The Department also conducts tours and educational classes to several other elementary grades and pre-school age children.
