The Civil Service Commission is an essential body that upholds fairness, transparency, and merit-based practices in the recruitment, selection, and employment processes of the Newton Police Department and the Newton Fire Department.
The Civil Service Commission of the City of Newton was created under the authority of the Code of Iowa, Chapter 400, Civil Service. The purpose of the commission shall be to provide a harmonious, efficient, and courteous public service which protects the interests of the City of Newton and its employees. The commission ensures that all employment decisions within the municipal government are based on merit and qualifications, free from any form of discrimination or favoritism.
