Evelyn George is a dedicated member of the Newton community, having served as an at-large council member since 2017. Prior to that, she represented Ward 3. She and her husband made Newton their home in 1983, briefly moving away in 2004 but returning within three years. With over 30 years of residency, Evelyn and her family have deep roots in the city. Their children graduated from Newton High School, further solidifying their connection to the community.
Evelyn's commitment to Newton extends beyond her role as a council member. She has actively contributed to various initiatives and projects, including serving as the chair of the Maytag Bowl Project Committee and participating in Newton Comprehensive Plan meetings. Additionally, Evelyn shares her knowledge and expertise by teaching the Get to Know Newton Leadership development class. Her educational background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and an MBA from the University of Iowa. With professional experience in marketing at Iowa Farm Bureau, as well as previous work at Maytag Appliances and Allsteel Office Furniture, Evelyn brings a diverse skill set to her community involvement.
