Park Policies and Rules
General Rules (applies to all City parks)
- Daily park hours are 5 AM - 11 PM.
- Vehicles must remain on roadways and designated parking areas.
- Fires allowed in grills only.
- Pets must remain on a leash at all times with the exception of the Newton Dog Park. Pet owners are required to cleanup after their pets in City parks and along hike/bike trails.
- No skateboards, bicycles, rollerblades or other similar devices are allowed in the pool house or in any shelter house.
- Obstructing traffic on park roadways is prohibited.
- Fighting, use of illegal drugs, destruction of park property, use of foul language, and excessive yelling or screaming are all prohibited in city parks.
- Park superintendents and law enforcement officials reserve the right to ban individuals from the parks for up to six months for failure to comply with park rules. Banned individuals may appeal to the parks director. The Park Board may extend the ban if deemed necessary.
- Loitering in the pool pavilion is prohibited. The pool pavilion is closed to the public when the facility is rented.
- Tobacco usage is prohibited on all city-owned park areas, trails, and Westwood Golf Course.

Shelter Reservations
- Reservations can be made online or at the Community Services Office, 403 W 4th St N, Suite 501 in the Legacy Plaza building 18.
- Shelter can be reserved daily from 9:00am-3:00pm or 4:00pm-10:00pm.
- Reservations may be made anytime after January 4th for the current calendar year only.
- Payment is due at time of reservation.
- There will be a $20.00 charge for all returned checks.
- All reservations are nonrefundable.
- The City reserves the right to cancel or modify a reservation without notice for any reason, and will attempt to reschedule or refund if necessary.
- Renter must wipe tables, sweep floor, pick up trash inside and outside shelter, remove trash bag, tie up and set beside trash can, then replace trash bag with new one from the bottom of the trash can prior to leaving the facility. If not done, renter may be charged a $50.00 cleaning fee.
- Key for the shelter must be picked up by 4:00 pm at the Community Services Office one business day prior to the reservation. Key must be returned by 8:00 am on the first business day following the rental or it can be placed in the drop box, located near the south entrance of the Community Services Office.
Maytag Pool Party Reservations
- Reservations can be made online or at the Community Services Office, 403 W 4th St N, Suite 501 in the Legacy Plaza building 18.
- Reservations may be made anytime after January 4th for the current calendar year only.
- Payment is due at the time of reservation.
- There will be a $20.00 charge for all returned checks.
- All fees are nonrefundable unless pool staff closes pool due to weather, then we will attempt to reschedule your pool party if dates are available.
- The City reserves the right to cancel or modify a reservation without notice for any reason, and will attempt to reschedule or refund if necessary.
- Renters are responsible for contacting the Community Services Office to reschedule due to inclement weather.
- Renters are allowed to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks into the concession area only.
- No glass bottles or containers are allowed.
- No alcohol is permitted inside the pool fence including deck, pool and concessions area.
- You must clean up all food, drinks and trash brought into the facility prior to leaving.
- Renters will be responsible for all damages occurring during their reserved time.
- No smoking is allowed in the park which includes the pool area.
- All swimmers will be expected to follow all regular pool and facility rules during the party.
- Violation of pool rules may result in expulsion of the party involved.
Dog Park
- Owners are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries or damages caused by their dogs.
- No unattended dogs allowed.
- Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression.
- Dog owners must pick up all dog waste and dispose of it in designated receptacles.
- Children must be at least 6 years of age and have adult supervision at all times.
- No more than 2 dogs allowed per person.
- A leash must be carried for each dog at all times.
- Absolutely no hole digging.
