viewing fire department processoin in 4th of July parade

The Newton Fire Department procession in this year's 4th of July parade was impressive. Leading the group was the Newton Firefighters Pipes and Drums group followed by the Newton Fire Department Honor Guard and numerous fire department vehicles.

Firefighter/Paramedic Steve Ashing made his debut performance marching in the 4th of July parade playing the bagpipes. Playing the bagpipes with Ashing is local resident Ron Husted. Husted has marched many years in the parade in Newton but this was the first time with a member of the fire department playing with him. Husted is the Founding Pipe Major of the Newton Firefighters Pipes and Drums and has been instrumental in the formation of the band.
