The 2019 Citizens Public Safety Academy will be a collaborative effort between the Newton Fire Department and Newton Police Department to provide real-world training and experience to the citizens of Newton. The academy will begin on September 24, 2019 and finish on November 26, 2019. The class will be held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Firefighting
  • Defensive tactics
  • Non-lethal weapons
  • Arrest procedures
  • Technical rescue
  • Firearms
  • SWAT operations
  • Hazardous materials
  • Criminal & narcotics investigations
  • K9 Unit
  • Forensics
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Traffic and impaired driving enforcement
  • Motorcycle unit

How to apply:

Please note:

  • There is no fee to take part in the academy. 
  • All applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older to participate.
    • A signed parental waiver is required if applicants are under the age of 18.
  •  A criminal records check will be conducted on all applicants prior to acceptance into the academy.
  • Participants must attend 80% of the session to graduate from the academy.
