The Newton WaterWorks will be flushing fire hydrants Friday, April 3rd & Saturday April 4th starting at 10pm each night until 6am the following morning.
Friday, April 3rd, 10pm until 6am: North of 1st Avenue & Bittersweet subdivison.
Saturday, April 4th, 10pm until 6am: South of 1st Avenue
Hydrants are flushed several times a year to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue which naturally builds up in the water mains. While no interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the work, the Newton WaterWorks advises customers may experience some drop in pressure or some discoloration of their water. The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold water tap is allowed to run. Do not run hot water or do laundry until cold water side is cleared up. Some customers have questioned why all hydrants are not flushed. Only those that provide the greatest flow and those that are on dead ends are opened. Should customers of Newton, Lambs Grove, or surrounding areas have questions or concerns they may call the WaterWorks at 641-792-2003 or 641-792-1460 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday-Friday.
