Des Moines Area Community College Board, owner of Legacy Plaza at 403 W 4th Street N, has accepted the proposal from Legacy Plaza, LLC, an Iowa registered entity, to enter into a redevelopment agreement to create several more amenities on the Legacy Plaza campus.

The project will encompass Buildings 1, 2, 16, and 50 and will include elements of housing, hospitality, event space, and retail. Although in preliminary space planning, the project is expected to provide roughly 50 units of apartments, 50 hotel rooms, a continuation of the existing tenant base as well as 13 new retail tenant uses. The project is being planned in phases with the apartment units making up phase one with a target construction start in 2021.

The project will seek Workforce Housing Tax Incentive Program funding through the Iowa Economic Development Authority for the housing component of the project.

City Council adopted a resolution supporting the project at the June 2 meeting. (Resolution 2020-137)
