At this time, there are several locations that are open to the public as cooling centers, charging stations and even to do laundry and/or take a shower! Read the entire post for accurate information.
Newton Public Library - The Library (100 N 3rd Ave W, Newton, IA 50208) is open as a cooling center/charging station through the weekend where you can cool off, charge your device and access the Library’s WiFi (which came online today)! The Library will be open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 12 p.m. (noon) - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Outdoor charging stations will remain available for anyone who wishes to visit after hours. You may also access the WI-FI from the outdoor charging stations, and the password will be posted on the front doors. Social distancing and masks are required inside the Library.
The Christian Conference Center - The CCC (located at 5064 Lincoln St, Newton, IA 50208) has power and is opening their doors to the public as a place to cool off, charge devices, take a shower and do laundry! They plan to be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through the weekend. If you want to call ahead to make an appointment to take a shower and do laundry, so you don’t have to wait, you can call 641-792-1266.
The Newton YMCA - The Newton YMCA (1701 S 8th Ave E #5098, Newton, IA 50208) will be open on Saturday, August 15 for showers at 6 a.m. - you will be asked to sign in at front desk, bring your own towels and soaps.
