[ARCHIVED] Storm Debris Cleanup Information (8/17/2020)

Starting today, City of Newton Public Works crews will start picking up tree debris from the curb. Crews will be using large equipment to pull piles of tree debris into streets, loading into trucks and taking to the Landfill. This process will take time. Please note the following:

  1. Do not park in front of the tree debris piles. If possible, do not park on your street at all next week. Keeping vehicles off the street will make it easier for the crews to work.
  2. Keep the piles clear of mailboxes, water valves, manholes and fire hydrants. When the crews pull the piles off the curb, they do not want to damage these items.
  3. If your pile of tree debris contains any other debris and/or garbage - it WILL NOT be picked up. This cleanup is not a Spring/Summer cleanup. DO NOT place fencing, furniture, playground equipment, grills, appliances, etc. in with the tree debris.

Debris should be cut down to 6 ft in length. Crews will only be picking up debris once.

The Newton Sanitary Landfill will have extended hours this week. Monday through Friday the Landfill will have hours of operation of 7:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. for solid waste and 7:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for brush drop off. The Landfill is not charging City of Newton residents for tree debris drop off at the Landfill.
