[ARCHIVED] Water Works Flushing Hydrants Oct 2 & 3

Newton Water Works will be flushing fire hydrants in Newton on Friday and Saturday of this week. Hydrants are flushed several times a year to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue which naturally builds up in water mains.

Fire hydrants will be flushed beginning Friday 10-2-20 from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning north of 1st Ave and bittersweet subdivision.  Beginning at 10:00 p.m. Saturday 10-3-20 until 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning for all customers south of 1st Avenue.

While no interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the work, Newton Water Works advises customers may experience some drop in pressure or some discoloration of their water. The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold water tap is allowed to run.  Do not run hot water or do laundry until cold water side is cleared up.

Should customers of Newton, Lambs Grove or surrounding areas have questions or concerns, they may contact Newton Water Works main office at 641-792-2003 or Newton Water Works distribution at 641-792-1460. In the event of an emergency, contact 641-792-7351.
