The City of Newton, Iowa, is accepting applications for the position of entry level (non-certified) and lateral (Iowa certified) Police Officer.

Newton is a progressive community with a population of 15,250 located east of the Des Moines metro on Interstate 80 and is the home of the Iowa Speedway. The Newton Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency consisting of 27 sworn and 5 non-sworn employees and includes a school resource officer, narcotics detective, general crimes detective, K9 unit, SWAT team and motorcycle unit.

Starting salary is $55,884 for non-certified entry level or up to $64,908 for Iowa certified lateral officers plus excellent benefits. Eligible certified officers may receive additional vacation hours and a bonus of up to $2,500 for successful completion of the field training program. Salary range for the position is $55,884 - $76,320.

Applicants must meet the minimum hiring requirements set forth by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and section 400.17 and/or 501 of the Administrative Code of Iowa. Veterans and current police officers certified by the ILEA with less than 6 months break in service are encouraged to apply.

Applicant testing includes a written and physical fitness test, polygraph exam, MMPI psychological exam, drug test, medical exam and a thorough background check. A complete job description and an application packet can be found at www.newtongov.org/employment.
