The Jasper County Fire Chiefs have requested and received approval, from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, for an Open Burning Ban for Jasper County. The burning ban is effective starting at 3:00 PM on 9/29/2021 and is in effect until it is determined by the Jasper County Fire Chiefs that conditions are safe to continue open burning. Below is the text from the proclamation from the State Fire Marshal:
OPEN BURNING PROHIBITED
ON SEPTEMBER 29,2021, THE OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL RECEIVED A REQUEST PURSUANT TO IOWA CODE 100.40(1) (1995) FROM NEWTON FIRE CHIEF JARROD WELLIK, REPRESENTING EACH FIRE DEPARTMENT HAVING ALL OR PART OF THEIR FIRE DISTRICT WITHIN JASPER COUNTY, THAT THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL PROHIBIT OPEN BURNING IN JASPER COUNTY. UPON INVESTIGATION THE FIRE MARSHAL FINDS THAT CONDITIONS IN JASPER COUNTY ARE SUCH THAT OPEN BURNING CONSTITUTES A DANGER TO LIFE OR PROPERTY.
IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED THAT NO PERSON SHALL ENGAGE IN OPEN BURNING IN JASPER COUNTY, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 AT 3:00 PM EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED BY IOWA CODE 100.40(3) UNTIL SUCH TIME AS NEWTON FIRE CHIEF JARROD WELLIK, REPRESENTING EACH FIRE DEPARTMENT HAVING ALL OR PART OF THEIR FIRE DISTRICT WITHIN JASPER COUNTY, NOTIFIES THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL THAT SUCH CONDITIONS DANGEROUS TO LIFE OR PROPERTY NO LONGER EXISTS.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT PURSUANT TO IOWA CODE 100.40(2) ANY VIOLATION OF THIS PROCLAMATION ORDER IS A SIMPLE MISDEMEANOR.

STATE FIRE MARSHAL
Continued dry conditions and forecast for the same in the upcoming days led to the decision to stop open burning until further notice. When conditions improve the Jasper County Fire Chiefs will request the State Fire Marshal rescind the order and another news release will be issued.
