Per new State Code of Iowa 384.15A, the City of Newton is posting notice of a public hearing occurring on Monday, February 21 at 6 p.m. for the Proposed Maximum Levy for fiscal year 2023.
The City of Newton property tax rate (the portion of a resident’s property taxes that go to the City) is proposed to remain unchanged in fiscal year 2023. Any total tax dollar increases are for salaries for employees according to union contracts (Fire, Police and Public Works), the approved pay plan and the increased cost of employee benefits such as health insurance and workers compensation.
