[ARCHIVED] Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Newton

City staff confirmed on Friday, March 28th that Emerald Ash Borer was positively identified in Newton. Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive species that attacks all species of ash trees. It is estimated that there are over 300 ash trees are on city property (i.e. right-of-way, parks, etc.). There are likely hundreds of others located on private property within city limits. This past winter, city staff started developing a plan to prioritize removal of ash trees on city property. City staff has and will continue to monitor the EAB situation. An informational workshop is being planned to educate property owners on EAB this spring. For more information or questions, contact Nathan Unsworth, Administrative Park Superintendent, at (641) 792-1470.
