[ARCHIVED] Fall Hydrant Flushing Scheduled for October 6 & 7

hydrant flushing

Hydrants are flushed several times yearly to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue, which naturally builds up in the mains. While no interruptions in water service will occur, customers may experience some pressure drop or discoloration of their water. The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold-water tap is allowed to run. Do not run hot water or do laundry until the cold water side is clear.

Some customers may have questions about why all hydrants are not flushed. Only those that provide the most significant flow and those on dead ends are opened. Should customers of Newton, Lambs Grove, or surrounding areas have questions or concerns, they may contact the City of Newton Utility Billing Office at 641-792-2003.
