May 7th was Red Pride Community Service Day and as part of the service project volunteers from the Newton High School, Red Cross and members of the Newton Fire Department installed smoke detectors in a target area within Newton. “The project was a great success” said Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik. “Collectively we installed over 50 smoked detectors in homes that either did not have detectors or the detectors were not working” added Wellik. The smoke detectors were donated by the Red Cross. The fire department still has smoke detectors available for homes that do not currently have detectors installed.
