[ARCHIVED] Council to Review 2014 Update to the Comprehensive Plan

IMG_0417.JPG

When Newton’s Future was adopted in October 2012, the City committed to revisiting the plan every two years to check things off of the to do lists, adjust where areas may have become outdated, and to add additional items to the list of “things to do”. The Comprehensive Plan is a 10 to 15 year planning document. Adjusting and updating along the way ensures that its guidance remains relevant to the dynamics in the community during that timeframe.

The City Council will review the plan at their September 15th Council Meeting. You can view the updated document at this link: http://www.newtongov.org/DocumentCenter/View/1174

Earlier this year, Newton participated in the National Citizen Survey. This was an effort to obtain citizen opinions in a more scientific manner. The results were gathered and then provided to the City this past summer. Also, in August, two citizen input sessions were held. In addition, the City conducted a community survey with questions touching on the same topics discussed at the public meetings. Between the in-person sessions and the community survey, as well as the National Citizen Survey, nearly 200 citizen voices were heard in the update effort.

In the document, you will find each updated chapter with deletions being noted with strikethrough (strikethrough) text and additions being highlighted in yellow. Check marks or a “in progress” note have been placed alongside the projects that have been completed or are in the works as a result of the comprehensive plan implementation process. No changes have been proposed to the Vision, Strategic Objectives, or Guiding Principles.
