Fire Prevention Week is October 9-15, 2016 with the slogan “Don’t Wait – Check the Date.” Newton residents are reminded that smoke detectors have a useful life of 10 years. This year, check the date located on the underside of your smoke alarm. If it is older than 10 years, please consider replacing the detector. Fire Prevention Week is also a great time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detector.
