On April 13th, Historic Preservation Commission Chair Larry Hurto was honored with a Main Street Leadership Award at the statewide award ceremony held in Des Moines. City staff, members of City boards and commissions, and Main Street Board members were present to honor Larry at the ceremony. Congratulations Larry!
Staff submitted the HRDP (Historic Resource Development Program) grant application on behalf of the Historic Preservation Commission on April 25th. If awarded, the funds from the grant will assist the commission in nominating two residential historic districts located on 1st Avenue East and West to the National Register of Historic Places.
Jasper County continues work on the Historic Clock-tower Project that the City of Newton Historic Preservation Commission received an HRDP Grant for on their behalf in 2017.
