Summer Youth Police Academy 2018

Newton, Iowa - The 22nd session of the Summer Youth Police Academy will begin June 18, 2018. The academy is targeted for students entering 5th - 8th grade in the Fall of 2018.  Classes will meet in four two-hour-long sessions on June 18, 19, 21, and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Applications can be picked up at the Newton Police Department, all Elementary school and Berg Middle School and click on application link below.

The goal of the Summer Youth Police Academy is to promote youth interest in law enforcement as a career.  It is anticipated that the course will provide a fun, interactive introduction to the law enforcement and criminal justice fields. 

The primary instructor for the Summer Youth Police Academy is the Newton School Resource Officer Julie Britton.  Additional police officers with specific areas of expertise will also be utilized.

Students are required to attend all four sessions, unless excused by a parent/guardian.  Parents/guardians are invited to attend any of the four classes to observe.

Applications must be returned to the Newton Police Department by June 11, 2018 to be considered for the class:
