The Newton Public Library has been Butterfly Central in the Children’s Department this month. We had a patron who raises monarchs bring in a display of Monarch Chrysalides and for the past month we have enjoyed watching them hatch and then releasing them into the library’s certified pollinator garden! Patrons of all ages enjoyed checking on the monarchs, and a few lucky patrons got to see some of them emerging from their chrysalis! Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter had children from story time help walk the butterflies outside to the garden. Approximately 45 monarchs have been hatched and released! We have video of one emerging from the chrysalis on the library’s Facebook page.
