Landfill staff continues work on both active and closed cells at the landfill throughout the year. Sometimes during wet weather leachate (water that has peculated through the trash) may leak through the side slopes of the cells.
The Department of Natural Resources mandates leachate seeps be contained and plugged upon being identified. This s usually resolved by hauling, placing and compacting extra dirt on side slopes, adding a vegetative layer and reseeding. In extreme cases, the trash may need to be excavated so staff can install tile lines to remedy the problem.
