On December 17, City Council approved a contract with Unified Contracting Services of Des Moines for construction of a new fueling system at the Newton Airport.
This project includes the installation of two new underground fuel tanks for jet fuel and aviation gas, fueling cabinets, a leak detection monitoring system, and related equipment.
The new relocated fuel tanks, which will be installed generally south of the terminal building, will allow for the future replacement of the north end of the parallel taxiway that no longer meets FAA runway separation standards.
The project cost of $510,620 will be offset by two state grants, leaving the City responsible for $141,000 in costs.
