  1. Centre for Arts & Artists July Clay Class: Wheel

    July 10, 2021, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Centre for Arts & Artists

Learn to throw pots on the wheel. This will be an introductory class that will give you the skills to throw simple forms that will be beautiful and useable. The class will concentrate on cylinders that can be turned into mugs or other objects. If you can already throw, you are free to make other forms. After you have thrown your pots they must dry for several days. After bisque firing, you return to glaze your pottery. It is then fired a second time that locks the color in place and provides that shine and finished toughness of stoneware. After this final firing, you will return again to the studio & pick up your pottery. All the steps required for your pottery are included in the cost: instruction, clay, trimming, glaze, and two firings. Bring your calendar so we can decide on a glazing date.

    July 10, 2021, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Centre for Arts & Artists

Learn to construct clay objects handbuilding with slabs. This is a good class for those who are intimidated by the wheel-thrown pottery. We will concentrate on making textured trays that could be used to hold a variety of things. If you are already familiar with using clay slabs, you may construct other forms. You may bring a leaf to use as the texture. After making your pottery pieces they will have to dry for several days and be fired. Then you will return and glaze your work and it will be fired again. Then you can pick up your finished work. Children 8 and older are welcome. Participants 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult. If both the child and adult make clay objects, they should sign up for 2 spots. All the steps required for your pottery are included in cost: instruction, clay, glaze, and two firings.
